Audio Guide to Ponte Sant’Angelo Bridge, One of Rome’s Oldest

Many things make Rome famous, and one of these certainly is its beautiful bridges decorating the banks of the Tiber River. Built in the second century at the will of Emperor Hadrian to make it his funerary mausoleum, it has served countless purposes throughout the centuries, from noble residence to prison to papal stronghold against foreign attacks.

The theatre of many events, including executions such as the infamous beheading of Beatrice Cenci (check out my audio guide about the tragic destiny of this young Roman woman).

There certainly are many tours of Castel Sant’Angelo (the Hadrian Mausoleum) itself, but not many guides take the time to properly introduce travellers to the bridge in front of it. Understandably, this bridge is always full of tourists and passers-by, so it’s not easy to actually stop on it.

But this is when my audio guide comes in handy! I think this bridge is a wonderful Roman monument and an important piece of history and this is why I created this 16-minute audio guide just for it, so that you can listen to it and learn about its art and history at your own pace, when it fits your schedule and best when it’s not too crowded.
